Why Emails Won't Work Without MX Records

MX (Mail Exchange) records are DNS (Domain Name System) records that specify which mail server is responsible for receiving email messages for a domain. Without MX records, email servers trying to send messages to your domain wouldn’t know where to deliver them, causing email failures.
For example, if you own www.examplewebsite.com, and there are no MX records set for it, when someone sends an email to info@examplewebsite.com, their email provider will attempt to look up where to deliver the message. Since no MX records exist, the email server won't find a valid destination, and the email will bounce back or fail to send.
Relationship Between Domain Provider (GoDaddy), Name Servers, Wix Hosting, MX Records, and Google Workspace Email Provider
Domain Provider - GoDaddy
GoDaddy is where you purchased your domain (examplewebsite.com).
It manages the domain registration but does not automatically provide hosting or email services.
You can configure DNS settings in GoDaddy.
Name Servers
Name servers tell the internet where to find your domain’s services.
You use Wix for website hosting, you might update the name servers in GoDaddy to Wix’s name servers (e.g., ns1.wixdns.net, ns2.wixdns.net).
This means Wix will now manage your domain’s DNS settings.
Hosting Provider - Wix
Wix provides website hosting and email forwarding at additional cost but does not provide professional email services.
Your website www.examplewebsite.com will be hosted on Wix, but Wix does not handle your email.
MX Records & Google Workspace (Gmail for Business)
Since Wix does not offer email hosting, you need an external email provider like Google Workspace (formerly G Suite).
To use info@examplewebsite.com via Google Workspace, you must add Google’s MX records in Wix’s DNS settings.
Google's MX records direct email traffic to Google’s mail servers.
Without these records, emails sent to info@examplewebsite.com won’t be delivered because email servers won’t know where to send them.
How It All Connects
You buy the domain from GoDaddy → DNS records can be managed either at GoDaddy or another provider.
You point the name servers to Wix if you are hosting your website there.
Wix controls the DNS settings, where you configure MX records at additional cost
You set up Google Workspace email and add Google’s MX records in Wix’s DNS.
Emails sent to your domain will now be routed to Google’s servers, where you can access them via Google workspace.
Conclusion
Without MX records, your email provider (Google Workspace) would never receive emails sent to your domain. MX records are like an "address" for email delivery, ensuring that messages are sent to the correct mail server. We will route unlimited emails for just ₹990 per year.
